Electrical equipments are all around us more than they have been ever before. We all use many gadgets and appliances in our day to day life and their use is only going to increase further in future. However, they are machines and being that, they keep on breaking. Defect is a common issue that we all face in our day to day lives. And therefore knowing how to fix things can be a great skill to have in present times.
Many people don’t understand how electricity works. But certain electrical tasks, like wiring a switch, are so basic that anyone with correct understanding can complete them in a few simple steps.
First and foremost, there is safety. Before beginning any electrical project, make sure the power is turned off at the breaker. Remove the switching covers and use a voltage sensor. Make sure there’s no electricity running in those wires in the electrical panel after you’ve switched off the power.
It’s time to connect the new switch to the rest of the system. Each wire must have half an inch of exposed wire and be twisted into something like a U shape to fit tightly around the switch’s screws. Your electrician’s pliers have a little hole which may be found on its edge. Bend the wire around the pliers’ lip after inserting it into the hole. This should give the ideal U form.
Loop your black wire around those brass screws clockwise. Wrapping the wire in a clockwise direction ensures that the connection tightens as the screws are tightened. Do the same thing with the white wire now. Finally, tighten the copper ground wire by wrapping it clockwise all around the green screw. The switch is now properly connected. All you have to do now is cover the switchboard.
